Sailing: Levington to Felixstowe Ferry Wind Direction: N Wind Stength: 15/25 Surf / Sea State: choppy Air Temperature: 7 Sea Temperature: Weather: sunshine and showers – cold :( Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Had decisions to make this morning, go windsurfing at Levington in the
forecast nnw slightly stronger than yesterday or give it a miss as it was
even colder – only 5 degrees at 10 :( Had had an email from Jason saying
he was probably going windsurfing at Bradfield again but didn’t want
another 50 mile round trip but then I got a Facebook message from Mark
Swain asking if I wanted to sail his 30 footer from Levington Marina back
to its mooring at Felixstowe Ferry:) It was an offer too good to turn down,
Maggie quickly declined the offer but drove me over to the marina in a hail
storm!!! We soon found Mark and his son Nick on their boat and luckily the
squall had moved over and we left the marina in lovely sunshine with a good
northerly wind even if like yesterday very up and down. It was great
reaching out of the river in testing conditions and with had a few hairy
moments avoiding the many racing boats! Even though Felixstowe dock was a
bit quiet it was still good sailing past the huge container ships, we
spotted a porpoise and a seal, also three Lifeboats too and had to keep an
eye on the dredger working in the River Orwell!
Sailing out of the choppy river we turned up the coast for a 5-mile tight
reach fairly close to the shore, it’s great to see Felixstowe from this
vantage point:) As we neared the tricky River Deben entrance it was time to
take the sails down to motor in the tight entrance. With the tide high we
quickly reached the Martello tower as another squall came through making it
an uncomfortable few moments! It was then a short distance to the mooring
opposite Kings Fleet where the boat was sorted out as we waited for a calm
bit to take the tender back to the Ferry to end a top adventure:)
Mark then dropped me home to end a top day! I did take my GPS but have
deleted the file by mistake:(
